You intend to drive straight on through this intersection. Are you obliged to yield the right of way to vehicles coming from the right?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the photo you are driving along a street in a town towards a junction where a pedestrian is crossing; on the right there is sign D-1 "priority road" with plate T-6a, on which the thick line of the priority road turns left, and thin lines lead straight on and to the right. When you intend to go straight on, you do not have to give way to vehicles coming from the right - they are entering from a minor road. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign D-1 marks the start or continuation of a priority road, and plate T-6a under it shows the actual course of the priority road through the junction. You are approaching the junction on the main road, so vehicles on the right, travelling along the road marked with a thin line, have sign A-7 or B-20 and give way to you. Vehicles on the left are also travelling on the priority road, but between vehicles on the same road the general rules apply - the Road Traffic Act says you must give way to a vehicle coming from the right, and you are on their right, so they give way to you. However, you watch whether someone fails to give way, and you always give way to a pedestrian on the crossing - you slow down, let him cross and only then do you drive through.
