Question no. 8538 3 pts basic B

You intend to turn right in this situation. Are you obliged to stop before the intersection?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video you are driving along a residential street past a car park with parked cars and approaching a junction with an intersecting road, along which a white minibus and a dark car are passing; before the junction there is no sign B-20 "STOP" and no mandatory stop line, and on the right there is sign D-6 with plate T-27. When you intend to turn right, you do not have to stop before the junction - you stop only when you need to give way to someone. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that the obligation to stop before entering a junction comes from sign B-20 "STOP", while sign A-7 "give way" and the general rules only require you to give way. The Road Traffic Act defines giving way as refraining from moving if your movement could force another driver to change direction or lane or to change speed significantly, and a pedestrian to stop, slow down or walk faster. So if the vehicles on the intersecting road are far away and nobody is on the crossing, you slow down and turn without stopping; when the minibus is approaching or someone steps onto the crossing, you stop and wait.

Legal basis: § 21 para. 1 and § 5 para. 5 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 2 point 23 and Art. 25 para. 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
