In this situation, should you prepare yourself for braking?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
YES
Explanation
In the video we are driving a tram on tram tracks between two roadways towards a junction. From the opposite direction, on the adjacent track, another tram is coming, which has just moved off from a stop, and in front of us there is a pedestrian crossing across the tram tracks, where pedestrians and a person with a bicycle are standing. In this situation you should prepare to brake - the answer is YES.
Preparing to brake means stopping accelerating and being ready to use the brake quickly. A pedestrian coming out from behind the tram passing us, or someone running to the stop, may suddenly step onto the crossing, and a tram has a long braking distance. A driver must adjust the speed to the situation and exercise particular caution before the crossing. The earlier you predict the danger, the more gently you will brake.
