What must you not do when you drive a bus transporting passengers?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

A. Eat.

Explanation

In the photo, a bus is driving in a lane marked "BUS" in the city centre. When you drive a bus carrying passengers, you must not eat food - answer A.

The Road Traffic Act prohibits the driver of a power-driven vehicle carrying a person from smoking tobacco or eating food while driving. The exception covers only the driver of a lorry carrying a person in the cab and the driver of a passenger car, except a taxi - a bus driver does not have this exception. Eating keeps your hands and attention busy, and in a sudden situation the driver is holding a sandwich instead of grabbing the steering wheel. Using a GPS navigation device (answer B) and a CB radio (answer C) is not prohibited - the ban on holding a handset or microphone in your hand applies only to a phone - but they must not take your attention away from the road. You eat your meal during a break, when the bus is stationary.

Legal basis: Art. 63 para. 5 and Art. 45 para. 2 point 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
