The Regulation on the technical conditions of vehicles requires dipped headlights to be asymmetric and to light the road further on the right-hand side than on the left-hand side. The reason comes from driving on the right: you light your own side of the road further and wider - the shoulder, signs, pedestrians and cyclists - while on the left the edge of the beam is lower so as not to dazzle oncoming drivers. Even lighting (answer C) would dazzle them every time you pass an oncoming vehicle, and the reverse pattern (answer B) works only in countries that drive on the left - that is why, before travelling to Great Britain, for example, drivers stick special covers on their headlamps. In a lorry the headlamps are mounted high, so correct adjustment is even more important.
