When the dressing soaks through, you do not remove it, but add another layer. Sterile gauze alone (answer A) protects the wound from dirt, but it will not stop heavy bleeding. Iodine and gentian violet (answer C) are for disinfecting small grazes - they do not stop blood, and when poured into a deep wound they damage the tissues. You work in gloves from the first aid kit, lay the casualty flat and call an ambulance.
