Which of the following vehicles can you drive if you hold an AM-category driving licence?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

B. A moped.

Explanation

In the photo, there is the back of a driving licence with dates entered only next to category AM. With a category AM driving licence, you are allowed to ride a moped - answer B.

The Vehicle Drivers Act states that category AM entitles you to drive a moped and a light quadricycle. A moped is a two- or three-wheeled vehicle with a combustion engine displacement of up to 50 cm3 or an electric motor power of up to 4 kW, with a speed limited by design to 45 km/h. A three-wheeled motorcycle (answer A) requires category A1, A2 or A, depending on its power. Any quadricycle (answer C) is too much - category AM covers only a light quadricycle, and the others require category B1 or B. Category AM also covers a combination of a moped and a trailer. You can ride a moped with category AM from the age of 14, and you may take the exam at the earliest one month before your 14th birthday.

Legal basis: Art. 6 para. 1 point 1 and para. 3 point 3 and Art. 8 para. 1 point 1 and Art. 50 para. 1 of the Vehicle Drivers Act (ustawa o kierujących pojazdami); Art. 2 point 46 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
