What's the maximum length of a combination vehicle consisting of a moped and a trailer?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
B. 4 m.
Explanation
In the drawing, there is the outline of a moped with a single-axle trailer attached. The maximum permitted length of a vehicle combination made up of a moped and a trailer is 4 m - answer B.
The Road Traffic Act limits the length of a vehicle combination made up of a moped and a trailer to 4 m - the same as for a motorcycle, a bicycle or a cycle cart with a trailer. The values 5 m (answer A) and 3 m (answer C) do not come from the rules. A second limit is also important: the actual total mass of a trailer pulled by a moped must not exceed the unladen mass of the moped and, at the same time, must not exceed 100 kg. With a trailer, a moped accelerates more slowly and takes longer to brake, and on a bend the trailer follows a different path from the moped's wheels. Remember that the trailer must have the required lights and reflectors, and the load in it must not move.
