How should you transport a ten-year-old child on a two-seat motorcycle?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

A. Wearing a helmet, on the passenger's seat.

Explanation

In the photo you can see a two-seat motorcycle seat with a clearly separate part for the passenger. You carry a ten-year-old child on such a motorcycle on the passenger seat, with the child wearing a safety helmet - answer A.

The Road Traffic Act states that people may be carried only in a vehicle intended or adapted for this, in the number of seats stated in the vehicle registration certificate, and a person carried on a motorcycle must wear a safety helmet. A two-seat motorcycle has exactly one place for a passenger - the rear seat with footrests and a grab handle. Sitting the child in front of you on the tank (answer B) means carrying them outside the place intended for this: the child has no support for the feet, blocks your arms and the handlebars, and in braking hits the tank. Squeezing the child between you and an adult passenger (answer C) means three people on two seats, that is, exceeding the number of seats and zero stability. Also remember that a child under 7 limits the speed of the motorcycle to 40 km/h; this limit no longer applies to a ten-year-old, but the child should reach the footrests with their feet and hold on firmly.

Legal basis: Art. 63 para. 1, Art. 40 para. 1 and Art. 20 para. 6 point 3 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
