Question illustration: What should you see in a properly-positioned rear-view mirror?

What should you see in a properly-positioned rear-view mirror?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

C. The rear car window and the road behind the car.

Explanation

In the photo you can see an interior rear-view mirror mounted by the windscreen of a car; the reflection in it is blurred. In a correctly adjusted interior mirror, you should see the rear window and the road behind the vehicle - answer C. A child in a child seat (A) or your own face (B) would replace your view of what is happening behind you.

The Regulation on the technical conditions of vehicles requires a passenger car to be equipped with mirrors that give the driver the rear view necessary for safety, including an interior mirror. Its job is to show the whole road behind the car: the vehicles that are approaching and how fast they are going. You adjust it from the position in which you sit while driving, so that the whole rear window is in the middle of the mirror, without moving your head. If you want to watch a child in the back, you fit an additional small mirror instead of moving the main one.

Legal basis: § 11 para. 1 point 5 and 5a of the Regulation on the technical conditions of vehicles and the scope of their necessary equipment
