If you go straight at this intersection, do you have the right of way over a vehicle approaching from the left?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the photo you are approaching a junction in a town; before it, on the right, there is sign D-1 "priority road" with plate T-6a; the thick line on the plate runs from the bottom and turns right, and the thin lines go straight on and to the left. On the left, at the entry, a silver van is waiting. Going straight on, you have right of way over it. The answer is: yes.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign D-1 marks a priority road, and plate T-6a shows its actual route through the junction. The vehicle on the left is coming out of a minor road, so it gives way to you, even though by going straight on you are leaving the priority road. Watch out for the trap: if something were coming from the right, along that priority road, you would have to give way. So you look to the right, and to the left you check whether the van is really waiting.

Legal basis: § 43 para. 1 and 2 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 5 para. 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
