Does this sign placed under the signalling device indicate that it is prohibited to enter the railroad switch and an obligation to stop and check whether the switch rails are properly positioned?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

YES

Explanation

In the photo we are driving a tram towards a junction with traffic lights. There are tram traffic lights on the post, and under them there is sign BT-4 - a red board with the letter "Z" and the word "Stop". This sign means that entering the points without stopping is prohibited and that you must check that the switch blades are in the correct position - the answer is YES.

Sign BT-4 is called "stop - points used in one direction only". The tram driver must stop the tram before the points and check that the switch blade lies correctly against the rail, and only then drive on. The obligation to stop always applies, even when the tram tracks are clear. A switch blade in the wrong position can cause a derailment, so after checking you drive over the points slowly.

Legal basis: § 81 para. 4 and § 82 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
