Were you obliged to use an indicator in the situation shown?
Show the correct answer
Correct answer
YES
Explanation
In the video you are driving along a street without painted traffic lanes; on the right there is a row of parked cars, and you move to the left, to the middle of the roadway, to pass them. Before this manoeuvre you were obliged to switch on your indicator. The answer is: yes.
The Road Traffic Act requires the driver to signal an intention to change direction or lane clearly and in good time, and to stop signalling immediately after completing the manoeuvre; a traffic lane is any strip of the roadway along its length that is wide enough for one line of vehicles, also when it is not painted. When you move to the middle of the roadway, you leave your lane and enter the part of the roadway used by oncoming vehicles. You switch on your left indicator before you start turning the steering wheel, and your right indicator when you return to your place after passing the cars.
