Question no. 4048 2 pts basic PT

Can a tram driver increase the speed when the tram he is driving is being overtaken?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video, we are driving a tram on tracks in the roadway, and on the right, on the roadway next to the tracks, cars are overtaking the tram. A tram driver is not allowed to increase speed when the tram he is driving is being overtaken - the answer is NO.

The Road Traffic Act prohibits the driver of a vehicle that is being overtaken from increasing speed during overtaking and immediately after it. The ban also applies to the tram driver. Speeding up makes the manoeuvre longer and forces the overtaking driver to drive next to the tram for longer or to cut in sharply in front of it. So you keep a steady speed, watch the mirrors and are ready to slow down if the overtaking car moves closer to the tracks.

Legal basis: Art. 24 para. 6 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
