You are driving a lorry of gross vehicle weight rating of 12 tones. Are you allowed in this situation to turn left at the nearest junction?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the photo you are driving along a town street towards a junction with traffic lights; on the right there is sign F-6 "advance sign placed before a junction", on which sign B-5 "no entry for lorries" is shown on the road to the left. When driving a lorry with a maximum permissible mass of 12 t, you are not allowed to turn left at the next junction. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that sign F-6 warns of a danger or prohibition, shown on it by a sign, that exists beyond the junction on the road indicated, and sign B-5 means no traffic of lorries with a maximum permissible mass over 3.5 t, road tractors and special vehicles over 3.5 t. So from the F-6 board you read that B-5 stands on the road going to the left - your 12-tonne lorry cannot enter it, so a left turn is ruled out for you, although passenger cars can turn there freely. Advance signs are especially important for lorry drivers, because a heavy vehicle combination cannot turn round in a narrow street. The ban from B-5 is sometimes softened by a plate "nie dotyczy" (does not apply), for example for deliveries - there is no such plate here.

Legal basis: § 70 para. 2 and § 18 para. 4 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
