Are you allowed to make a U-turn from the lane you are taking?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the photo you are driving in a lane with arrow P-8b for a left turn, but on your left there is one more lane, in which a white and orange car is driving. So your lane is not the far left lane, and only a left arrow in the far left lane allows a U-turn. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals states that a lane direction arrow allowing a left turn, painted in the far left lane, also means permission to make a U-turn. From a lane that has another lane on its left, a U-turn is not allowed, because the path of the vehicle making the U-turn would cross the path of vehicles turning left from that neighbouring lane. From your lane you turn left, and only the driver in the lane next to you may make a U-turn.

Legal basis: § 87 para. 1 and 2 of the Regulation on road signs and signals
