Are you approaching a bicycle crossing in the presented situation?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the photo, in winter, you are driving on a road outside town; on the right there is a blue square sign with a figure of a pedestrian on a crossing - D-6 "pedestrian crossing", and before it, closer to the roadway, a round blue sign C-13 "cycle path". In this situation you are not approaching a cycle crossing. The answer is: no.

The Regulation on road signs and signals distinguishes three signs: D-6 "pedestrian crossing" marks a place intended for pedestrians to cross the road, D-6a "cycle crossing" marks a place intended for cyclists to ride across the road, and D-6b "pedestrian crossing and cycle crossing" marks both of these places next to each other. In the photo you can see only the pedestrian symbol, so this is only a pedestrian crossing; a cycle crossing would have a bicycle symbol on the sign, and on the roadway two rows of white squares instead of zebra stripes. Sign C-13 marks a cycle path running along the roadway, not across it. The difference matters in practice: before a pedestrian crossing you give way to pedestrians, and before a cycle crossing - to cyclists, who move faster and appear suddenly.

Legal basis: § 47 para. 1-3 and § 37 para. 1 of the Regulation on road signs and signals; Art. 26 para. 1 and Art. 27 para. 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
