Question no. 10224 2 pts basic B

In this situation, are you allowed to use the sound signal?

Show the correct answer

Correct answer

NO

Explanation

In the video, you are driving along a street in a town and approaching a pedestrian crossing marked with sign D-6 on the right; pedestrians are walking across the crossing. You are not allowed to use the horn. The answer is: no.

The Road Traffic Act allows you to use the horn only when it is necessary to warn of danger and prohibits misusing it, and in a built-up area it prohibits using the horn at all, unless it is necessary because of immediate danger. Pedestrians walking across a designated crossing do not create any danger - they are using their right, and you are required to exercise particular caution, reduce speed and give way to them. Using the horn in this situation would be hurrying them, which is misuse of the signal, and it could frighten a pedestrian so much that they stop in the middle of the roadway or step back. So you stop before the crossing and wait until the pedestrians have left the roadway. In town you will use the horn only when you need to warn someone of a real, immediate danger - for example when a pedestrian steps right in front of your wheels without seeing you.

Legal basis: Art. 29 para. 1 and para. 2 point 1 and 2 and Art. 26 para. 1 of the Road Traffic Act (Prawo o ruchu drogowym)
